Qatar Airways flight makes emergency landing in Basra

BASRA – A Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, flight QR20, executed an emergency landing at Basra International Airport today after a potential fire was reportedly detected on board. Originating from Dublin, the flight was en route to Doha with 270 passengers on board.

The crew identified an unusual smell indicative of a fire, prompting them to declare an in-flight emergency. The aircraft, selecting Basra as the most suitable diversion location, landed safely, and all passengers were evacuated promptly and without harm.

Transport Minister Razzaq Mohibis Al-Saadaawi praised the swift and professional actions of the air traffic controllers and emergency teams. “The dedication and efficiency of the Basra International Airport staff were instrumental in ensuring the safety of everyone on board,” he commented.

Qatar Airways organized a replacement aircraft to transport the passengers to their final destination.
