Dates prices drop after arrival from northern orchards

BASRA, August 20 — The prices of dates have significantly decreased at the Bashaar Street market in the center of Basra, following the arrival of fresh dates from orchards in four districts in the northern part of the province.

Hazem Al-Basrawi, one of the prominent date traders, stated to Network 964:
“Today, we received fresh dates from the remaining districts of Basra (Al-Haritha, Al-Dair, Al-Qurnah, and Al-Madaina). Orchard owners decided to market their produce at the main market rather than confining sales to the northern markets of Basra.”

“The influx of these large quantities of various date varieties disrupted the exclusivity of Abu Al-Khasib’s orchards, which used to dominate the market, causing a decline in prices.”
