Free tickets for Iraqi fans to watch Olympic matches in Paris
NEWSROOM– The head of the Iraqi National Olympic Committee, Aqeel Muften, announced on Monday the distribution of free tickets for the Iraqi Olympic team’s football matches at the Paris Olympics. The tickets will be available to both Iraqi fans and the Iraqi diaspora in Europe.
The Iraqi national team has qualified for the football competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics games after securing third place in the AFC U-23 Asian Cup. Iraq will compete in Group B, alongside Morocco, Argentina, and Ukraine.
“The Olympic Committee continues to support our athletes’ participation in the Paris Olympics. The latest support includes the distribution of free tickets to the matches of our Olympic team to the Iraqi public, as well as special T-shirts printed with the Iraqi flag,” Muften told Iraqi News Agency.
The Iraqi team’s schedule for the group stage of the Paris Olympics includes matches against Ukraine on Wednesday, July 24, at 19:30 in Lyon; Argentina on Saturday, July 27, at 17:00 in Lyon; and Morocco on Tuesday, July 30, at 17:00 in Nice.
Iraq’s Olympic history in football is marked by sporadic participation, with the 2016 Rio Olympics being a significant appearance after a gap since the 2004 Athens Olympics. Iraq’s men’s football team qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics by securing third place in the 2016 AFC U-23 Championship held in Qatar. The team was placed in Group A, alongside Denmark, Brazil, and South Africa. The Iraqi team drew in all group stage matches, thus its finished third in the group and did not advance to the knockout stage.
