Halabja to build first elderly care home

HALABJA – Halabja, a city previously noted for its absence of elderly care facilities, is finally getting one.

A local philanthropist is set to establish the area’s inaugural nursing home via a significant donation.

Over recent years, a building designated for this purpose was constructed by a benefactor who subsequently donated it to the office of the Halabja governorate.

Dana Hama Sharif, the General Director of Social Welfare in Halabja, informed 964media, “A city resident has offered to donate a building to the Halabja Social Welfare Directorate for use as a care home for the elderly.”

This facility aims to serve seniors who are without familial support or housing, offering them accommodation and care services.

Hama Sharif emphasized Halabja’s strong community bonds, where traditionally, families care for their elderly members. Nevertheless, there’s an acknowledged need for a specialized establishment to aid those lacking familial support.

The nursing home is to be located near the Chawg area. Steps are being taken to finalize the required administrative and legal processes to make the facility operational.
