Eight families decide to return
Water scarcity issue resolved in Away Bashe village, Kifri district
KIFRI — Away Bashe village, located in Kifri’s Sarqala sub-district, has overcome a long-standing water scarcity problem, allowing eight families to return and rebuild their lives in the area.
For years, the village faced severe water shortages, prompting many of its residents to leave. However, as part of a village revival project, the International Medico Organization, in coordination with the German Association for International Cooperation, successfully addressed the water scarcity issue by drilling a well.
Ziad Farouk, a project manager for the German association, spoke to 964media, sharing the impact of the project.
“The villagers had abandoned their homes for many years due to the lack of drinking water. Now, after resolving the water issue, the village is being fully repopulated, with eight families currently constructing their homes and planning to return to the village,” he said.
The project, which included not only the drilling of the well but also the implementation of a water distribution system for all the village houses, has been received well by the community.
“At the opening ceremony of the project, the villagers prepared food with great joy, gathering together at a communal table, sharing the moment with men, women, and children alike,” Farouk added.
To date, the collaboration between the two organizations has restored drinking water to nine villages in the Garmiyan region, drilling wells and planning to continue their efforts to revitalize rural areas.
