Using fun and games to spark environmental awareness in kids
ERBIL — Friday marked the third day of the Erbil International Book Fair, the daily exhibition running through April 27, which showcases publications and events from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. 964 Tube is an official media partner of this year’s fair.
Saadiyah F. Hassoon, head of Together to Protect Human and Environment Association, spoke to 964media about her organization’s mission to raise environmental awareness among children through books and educational games.
“We developed those games to change young people’s behavior in order to be more responsible toward protection of the environment,” she said. The organization’s stand included training materials on health and the environment for teachers and youth.
Hassoon also showed an environment-focused game of snakes and ladders to teach children behaviors that support conservation. “Good bevior [takes] them up, bad behavior [takes] them down, so they know in life to be more responsible and behave well toward the environment and natural resources,” she said.
