Tackling littering epidemic
Erbil launches cleanup campaign in parks and gardens
ERBIL — The Erbil Parks Directorate has launched a comprehensive cleanup operation targeting various parks, gardens, and green spaces across the city. The initiative, which kicked off on Wednesday, has already covered 42 parks and gardens with the goal of tidying up these areas.
Rebin Ahmed, the head of the Erbil Parks Directorate, informed 964media that the cleanup is a joint venture with the six municipalities within the city limits. Employees from each municipal area are contributing to the effort, which now spans all territories under their management.
Ahmed pointed out that the cleanup was urgently needed due to the accumulation of trash from recent flooding, compounded by the significant littering by residents in these recreational areas. This situation spurred the commencement of the cleanup campaign.
The directorate has reported that numerous dumpsters have been filled with residential and commercial rubbish, and is taking legal measures against fruit vendors and others who leave their waste behind, contributing to the littering and pollution.
The operation is ongoing, with the aim of improving the aesthetics of Erbil’s parks. The directorate is encouraging local residents to participate in these efforts and support the maintenance of these beautified spaces, acknowledging the diligent work of the cleanup teams.
