Iraq witnesses 19,000 fires this year

BAGHDAD, August 13 – The Civil Defense Directorate announced on Sunday that Iraq has witnessed 19,000 fires since the beginning of the current year.

The Director of the Public Relations and Media Department at the Directorate, Colonel Joudat Abdulrahman, stated to the Iraqi official agency, followed by Network 964, that “Iraq has experienced more than 19,000 fire incidents up to August 13, 2023, since the start of the current year.”

He added, “The number of fires has decreased by 20% compared to the previous year, thanks to the growing awareness among citizens in adhering to safety conditions, as well as the adoption of modern construction methods that are far from fire-causing factors. We hope the numbers will continue to decline even further.”
