Workers union and environmental association distribute protective gear in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH, January 25 — The Sulaymaniyah branch of the Kurdistan Workers Union, in partnership with the Green Kurdistan Association, distributed protective gear to over 600 workers this week, including street and hospital cleaners.

Chalak Rauf, head of the union’s Sulaymaniyah branch, said workers received high-quality gear, underscoring the need for protective equipment to ensure workers and employees are safe on the job. The union reported that 24 workers died in workplace accidents in 2023.

“The distributed items encompass filtered masks, badges, and various other protective gear,” Rauf explained.

This initiative was part of the union’s ongoing efforts to highlight workers’ well-being, Rauf explained, adding that some materials were sourced from external donors, while others were supplied and distributed by the union itself.
