Fallout from dawn strikes

Kata’ib Hezbollah threatens wider scope of retaliation against U.S.

BAGHDAD, January 24 – Kata’ib Hezbollah has issued a statement on Wednesday warning of potential expanded retaliation in response to the recent U.S. airstrikes targeting their facilities in Al-Qaim and Jurf Al-Sakhar.

The group threatened to target U.S. interests in Iraq and the broader region, not just military bases.

Full statement:

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,

The continued U.S. attacks on the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces and security forces necessitate a change in our approach. We plan to broaden our retaliation from military bases to include U.S. interests throughout Iraq and the region.

The U.S. has committed another act of aggression by targeting the Popular Mobilization Forces’ headquarters in Jurf Al-Nasr, Al-Qaim, and Trebil. This attack resulted in one death and three injuries. These actions add to the U.S.’s history of crimes against humanity and genocidal wars against peoples.

The Islamic Resistance, Kata’ib Hezbollah, is determined to deliver decisive strikes to U.S. forces until they are driven out of Iraq and the region. Our goal is to ensure the security and stability of our people. We also express our solidarity with and support for Gaza in its resistance against American influence in the occupied Palestinian territories. “And victory comes only from Allah, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”

We pray for mercy and eternal peace for the martyrs, patience and comfort for their families, and a swift recovery for the injured.
