Five drones over Sulaymaniyah and Halabja as Komala site attacked

SULAYMANIYAH — Three drones struck a Komala site in the Zargwezalla area of Sulaymaniyah at about 3:10 a.m. on Monday, while two more came down elsewhere in Sulaymaniyah and Halabja, with explosions heard across parts of both governorates loud enough to wake residents.

The site belongs to the Revolutionary Organization of the Toilers of Kurdistan, an Iranian Kurdish opposition party known as Komala, and is in a civilian area, according to information provided to 964media. Material damage was caused and nobody was hurt. Around the same time a drone crashed in the mountains of Qaradagh in Sulaymaniyah, starting a fire, and another fell on agricultural land near Gurgachiya village in Sirwan subdistrict in Halabja governorate.

Zargwezalla has been struck twice before this year. An attack on March 8 hit Komala bases there during a wider night of drone and missile strikes across the Kurdistan Region, killing one member and wounding two. On July 17 the party’s main compound was hit in two waves, killing nine members and wounding three; a Komala central committee member said six projectiles struck the site, including residential areas where families lived.

The party was also targeted eight days ago, when three drones hit its camp at Surdash in Sulaymaniyah between 4:45 and 5:05 a.m. Komala said several houses and facilities caught fire and blamed Iran, which has not commented. Nobody has claimed responsibility for Monday’s attack.
