Iraqi civil aviation authority to strengthen ties with Germany

BAGHDAD, September 16 — The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority announced on Friday the signing of a memorandum with its German counterpart to enhance air transportation between the two countries. This agreement represents an update to a previous treaty signed between the two nations in 1977.

The aviation authority released a statement, which said:

The Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority has signed an executive memorandum with its German counterpart to enhance air transportation between the two countries. This comes in response to an invitation from the German side and was attended by a representative from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Iraq’s national carrier.

Mr. Imad Abdulzraq Al-Asadi, President of the Iraqi Civil Aviation Authority, stated that the meeting with the German side discussed the draft of an air transportation services agreement for the purpose of updating the previous agreement signed between the two countries in 1977. Additionally, an executive memorandum was signed with the German side to develop air transportation between the two countries, serving the interests of Iraqi national carriers and the existing Iraqi airports, as well as the soon-to-be-opened airports in Iraq, to serve Iraqi travelers heading to this vital destination.

He further emphasized that cooperation and coordination with the German side would harness all experiences and capabilities to develop the state of air transportation, ultimately serving Iraq’s national interest.
