Iraqi Airways to resume Baghdad-Moscow flights
BAGHDAD – Iraqi Airways will resume flights between Baghdad and Moscow starting July 16, after a suspension that began in early February, the airline announced.
In February, the carrier cited “operational issues with the Russian side” as the reason for halting the service and advised passengers with existing bookings to visit the company’s offices in Baghdad for refunds without any additional charges.
Munaf Abdul Munim, the General Manager of Iraqi Airways, confirmed that the service would restart with two weekly flights on Saturdays and Tuesdays, and he mentioned the possibility of adding more flights depending on demand.
This resumption follows a long hiatus in air connectivity between the two nations, which started when Russia suspended regular flights to Iraq in 2004 following the U.S.-led invasion in 2003. The countries resumed scheduled commercial airline services in 2017 after a 13-year break.
Yesterday, Iraqi Airways also restarted its direct flights from Baghdad to Beijing, scheduling two flights each week on Saturdays.
