Disguised as package

Two killed, two injured in roadside bomb explosion near Abu Ghraib checkpoint

BAGHDAD — A roadside bomb concealed inside a delivery package on a tuk-tuk exploded near a checkpoint in the Al-Salamiyat area of Abu Ghraib, west of Baghdad, killing two people, including an Iraqi soldier, and injuring two others.

The Baghdad Operations Command reported that the explosion occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Monday. The bomb was delivered via a motorcycle tuk-tuk after being ordered by a civilian near the checkpoint.

The bomb detonated upon delivery, killing the motorcycle driver and an Iraqi soldier. The civilian who ordered the package was injured, as was another individual affiliated with Al-Sahwah, also known as the “Sons of Iraq,” a Sunni tribal militia.

Baghdad Operations Command stated, “A task force has been formed to investigate the incident and track down the perpetrators. Further details will be provided as they become available.”
