Japanese Cooperation Agency to help rehabilitate electricity infrastructure in Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraqi Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, discussed on Monday with a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) the services provided by the agency in rehabilitating transmission lines in liberated areas and establishing new projects in the field of clean energy.

According to a statement from the minister’s media office, engineer Ziyad Ali Fadel, Minister of Electricity, received a delegation from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) at the ministry’s headquarters. He discussed with them the services provided by the agency in rehabilitating transmission lines in liberated areas and providing efficient and sustainable services.

The minister discussed with the delegation the preparations of the Japanese agency to finance projects of the Ministry of Electricity. He also reviewed a presentation by the agency’s delegation on developmental projects in Iraq in the field of clean energy, which will be available upon completion of financial loan procedures.

According to the statement, he praised the efforts of the Japanese agency in supporting the Iraqi government’s efforts to rebuild liberated areas and achieve comprehensive development in various sectors. He noted that the ministry has developed promising plans with multiple timelines to update the infrastructure of the country’s electrical system and meet the energy needs of citizens reliably.

The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has made many contributions to supporting Iraq’s efforts since 2003 to develop its infrastructure. It has provided dozens of loans and financial grants to various government institutions, as well as training and development programs for Iraqi human resources.
