First mountain bike race in Said Sadiq, Sulaymaniyah
SULAYMANIYAH, 21 January – The first mountain biking race was held in Said Sadiq, southeast of Sulaymaniyah, with 50 participants from various cities and districts of the region. The winner called for dedicated spaces for this emerging sport in Kurdistan.
Participant Briz Rizkar, speaking to 964media, explained, “The competitors were divided into two categories based on their motorcycle engine power (250 cc and 450 cc). I have participated in three championships, winning first place twice and second place once in Baghdad. I hope that a designated area for practicing this sport will be established in the region. I won first place in the 450 cc category and participated in two races today.”
Qaimaqam (district official) of Said Sadiq, Reza Ismail, emphasized the city’s passion for various sports, including motorcycle racing. “We hosted the race, and fortunately, it was successful. We ensured that only regular and registered bikes participated. Given the success of this first race, it’s possible that we will organize more races in the coming years.”
The event, marking a significant development in local sports, was held amidst other regional sports activities, including a showcase of Arabian horses in Suq Al-Shuyukh and various automobile races in Diyala and Mosul.
Additionally, traffic authorities in Sulaymaniyah have trained 150 drivers from the “Talabat” food delivery app to prevent road accidents that can be common among food delivery cyclists, reflecting a growing emphasis on road safety in the region.
