Duhok woman establishes first women’s mountain climbing group in Akre

DUHOK, September 4 — A young woman from Duhok has established the first women’s mountain climbing group in Akre district, with their inaugural journey taking them to Grbish Mountain in Dinarta subdistrict.

Group leader Ahlam Awni told 964 that the Nikhaza Women’s Mountain Climbing Group in Akre consists of 30 girls and women ranging in age from 17 to 37.

“The group aims to highlight the capabilities of women, especially the women of Akre, as there is no place they can go to break their daily routine,” Awni said.

“We will hike on all the mountains of Kurdistan, and we will try to coordinate with other mountain climbing groups for joint experiences,” she added.

The group organizes climbing trips to mountains across the Kurdistan region twice a month.
