Over 20 beneficiaries identified
KRG approves employment and housing program for youth in care facilities
ERBIL, January 17 — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has approved a proposal to employ children living in public care facilities once they reach adulthood.
The employment would be on a contractual basis and include accommodation.
Previously, children living in care facilities under the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs faced an uncertain future after turning 18.
Ministry spokesperson Arian Ahmadtold 964media that the decision aims to provide protection and stability for these individuals.
“They will be allocated apartments, registered under the ministry’s name until they reach the age of 24, after which the ownership will be transferred to them,” he explained.
Under the ministry’s supervision, a total of 24 individuals from boys’ and girls’ care facilities in Erbil, Sulaymaniyah, Duhok, and Garmiyan will be employed.
