High-level Iraqi delegation visits Washington for discussions on security cooperation

BAGHDAD, August 7 — The spokesperson for the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Major General Yahya Rasool, stated on Monday that a high-level delegation led by the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Mohammed Al-Abbas, had begun a visit to Washington upon an official invitation from the Pentagon.

Rasool said in a statement received by 964:

Upon an official invitation from the U.S. Department of Defense (the Pentagon), a high-level delegation led by the Iraqi Minister of Defense, Thabet Mohammed Al-Abbas, has started a visit to the United States of America.

The delegation includes the Head of the Counter-Terrorism Service, Lieutenant General Abdulwahab Al-Saadi, the Chief of Staff of the Army, Lieutenant General Abdulamir Rashid Yarallah, Lieutenant General Qais Al-Mohammedawi, Deputy Commander of Joint Operations, and several advisors and officers.

During this visit, the delegation will hold multiple meetings to discuss various topics, including the future relationship of the international coalition presence, bilateral security cooperation between Iraq and the United States, and the exchange of expertise and information, particularly in intelligence operations to pursue the remnants of terrorist Daesh elements.

The visit also encompasses a series of meetings with officials from the U.S. Department of Defense to serve the mutual interests of both countries.
