Case covers 2.1 trillion dinar payment last year

Federal Court to review complaint against KRG budget transfers

ERBIL, January 8 — Iraq’s Federal Court is set to address a complaint against the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) on Monday, brought forth by a member of the Parliament’s Finance Committee, questioning the constitutionality of providing financial assistance to Erbil.

As per the Federal Court’s hearing schedule, the complainant accuses Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa’ Al-Sudani of approving a 2.1 trillion dinars payment to the KRG to cover public-sector salaries.

The Iraqi Council of Ministers approved the payment transfer on September 17, 2023, which amounted to three months of salaries transfers for the KRG, set at 700 billion dinars per month.
