Population grows to more than 43 million

Iraq releases population and economic data for 2023

BAGHDAD, January 8 — The Ministry of Planning announced on Monday that population estimates for Iraq at the end of 2023 reached over 43 million.

The ministry released a statement, which said:

Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Planning, provided the following statistics:

The estimated population of Iraq at the end of the past year, 2023, was 43,324,000.

The urban population constituted 69.9 percent, while the rural population accounted for 30.1 percent.

Individuals under the age of 15 comprised 41 percent of the total population.

The age group of people 15-64 years constituted 57 percent of the population.

The population aged 65 years and above constituted 3 percent.

The average economic activity rate for individuals aged 15 years and above was 40 percent.

Among economically active individuals, 87 percent were men, while 13 percent were women.

The inflation rate decreased to 4.4 percent in 2023, compared to 6.1 percent in 2021 and 4.9 percent in 2022.
