"10 loaves of bread for 1,000 dinars"
Bread pricing dispute emerges in Sulaymaniyah as bakeries reject proposed rates
SULAYMANIYAH, January 7– Sulaymaniyah bakeries refute recent directive to sell 10 loaves of bread for 1,000 dinars, stating that neither have they been approached nor do their current conditions allow for such price.
The controversy arose after the Ministry of Trade of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to implement a new pricing scheme, offering 10 loaves of bread and 10 samoons weighing 100 grams for 1,000 dinars starting from the new year.
Haji Salah, the representative of bakeries and samoon vendors in Sulaymaniyah, clarified to 964media that the pricing model is unfeasible for them. He emphasized that there was no prior consultation, highlighting the high costs of gas and flour, coupled with electricity shortages.
Salah stressed the importance of collaboration, stating, “We shouldn’t hear about a decision from the media. Every decision should involve consultations, meetings, and a mutual understanding.”
