Soleimani’s anniversary: 15 Iraqi and one Iranian province declare holiday

BAGHDAD, 2 Jan — Fifteen governorates, encompassing all of Iraq except the Kurdistan region, declared January 3rd a public holiday to commemorate the killing of the “leaders of victory,” Qasem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, who were killed in 2020 by an American drone strike in Baghdad.

Meanwhile, in Iran, the official news agency IRNA said that a public holiday has been declared only in Kerman, General Qasem Soleimani’s birthplace. This holiday is specifically for institutions and educational centers in Kerman.

Mojtaba Asadzadeh, the spokesperson for Kerman province, clarified that the holiday is confined to offices and educational centers in Kerman and does not extend to other cities and towns in the province. Executive bodies and service providers, including medical centers, will remain operational to serve visitors at General Qasem Soleimani’s mausoleum.
