Over 100 lives lost to drowning in Kurdistan Region

ERBIL, December 31– In the Kurdistan Region this year, over 100 individuals have lost their lives by drowning, despite the efforts of civil defence teams and volunteers who managed to rescue approximately 70 people.

Karwan Mirawdali, the spokesperson for Erbil Civil Defence, told 964media that among the reported drownings, 31 occurred in Erbil governate, specifically in the Khabat district, where 17 individuals lost their lives, including women and children. The statistics reveal a higher toll compared to the previous year, where 77 individuals lost their lives to drowning in the Kurdistan Region.
