Iraqi foreign minister updates Kuwaiti counterpart on investigation into assault on tourist

BAGHDAD, December 26 — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein informed his Kuwaiti counterpart Sheikh Salem Al-Sabah on Monday that Iraqi authorities are closely following the fate of a Kuwaiti tourist who was assaulted in Anbar before disappearing. The information was conveyed during a phone call between the two leaders.

Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement, which read:

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein received a phone call today, Monday, December 25, 2023, from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the sisterly State of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

During the call, the circumstances of the assault on a Kuwaiti citizen in Anbar governorate were discussed. The Minister affirmed the Iraqi government’s commitment to determining the fate of the Kuwaiti citizen, indicating that Iraqi security authorities are actively investigating the incident.

In response, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude and appreciation for the efforts made by the Iraqi authorities to determine the fate of the Kuwaiti citizen and ensure his safety.
