Erbil officials discuss implementation of workforce mandate for local citizens

ERBIL, December 26 — The Erbil Governor’s office held a meeting on Monday to discuss plans to implement a recent directive by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) that mandates 75 percent of jobs in the region be allocated to local citizens.

Governor Omid Khoshnaw and Abdul Hakim Khosrow, head of the KRG’s Coordination and Monitoring Office, discussed the details of the decision, emphasizing the importance of job security and the protection of workers’ rights.

Khoshnaw informed 964 that his office organized a meeting with all district directors, general directors, and office heads to implement the decision following the directive.

KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani signed the decree into law on September 20, 2022, specifying that foreign workers should not surpass 25 percent of the workforce in the private sector.
