Iraqi PM: Christian community are “the salt of the earth”

BAGHDAD, 25 December — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani of Iraq joined a Christian family in Baghdad to celebrate Christmas, extending his congratulations to all Iraqis, particularly the Christian community. In a statement, he described the Christian community as “the salt of the earth” and a strong component of Iraq.

During his visit to several Christian families in Baghdad, al-Sudani shared in their Christmas celebrations. He expressed his pride in all components of the Iraqi people and acknowledged the Christian community’s significant contributions to the country’s development, affirming that their presence in Iraq is a source of strength.

Al-Sudani reaffirmed the government’s commitment to engaging with all segments of Iraqi society, especially in participating in the Christian community’s celebrations. He referenced his attendance at the Christmas Mass in the previous year and noted that his absence this year was due to the incident in Hamdaniya and in solidarity with the people of Palestine in Gaza.
