Founder issues a plea for support

Sinjar’s Heritage and Cultural House faces imminent closure due to lack of funding

SINJAR, December 22 — A Yazidi religious leader and founder of Sinjar’s Heritage and Cultural House said  he was disappointed over the space’s impending closure. The decision to shutter the location comes in the absence of funding from the United States and the expiration of the house’s lease.

Mam Fakhir Khalaf issued a plea at a press conference, where he lamented what he called unfulfilled promises from Iraq’s Ministry of Culture and the lack of sustainable financial support. Having dedicated over five years to preserving Sinjar’s diverse heritage, Khalaf now faces the challenge of keeping this symbol of cultural unity alive amid funding gaps.

The closure of Sinjar’s Heritage House, a repository of local instruments and traditions, symbolizes the broader struggles of cultural preservation in post-conflict regions.
