Kurdish parties secure nearly half a million votes in provincial elections
December 21 — Kurdish political parties achieved nearly half a million votes in Monday’s Iraqi provincial council elections, according to initial results released by election commission officials.
Predominantly concentrated in Kirkuk, Nineveh, Diyala, and Salah Al-Din governorates, the total Kurdish vote tallied up to 433,729, with Kirkuk governate leading with 217,774 votes, followed by Nineveh and Diyala.
A breakdown of Kurdish votes is listed below:
Kirkuk:
– Kirkuk Coalition for Strength and Will (Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and Kurdistan Communist Party): 139,373 votes
– Kurdistan Democratic Party: 46,749 votes
– The New Generation Movement: 24,620 votes
– Kirkuk Torch Coalition: 6,655 votes
– Kurdistan Socialist Democrat Party: 377 votes
The total Kurdish vote in Kirkuk amounted to 217,774.
Nineveh:
– Kurdistan Democratic Party: 127,938 votes
– Nineveh People’s Coalition (including Patriotic Union of Kurdistan): 45,939 votes
– Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party: 923 votes
The total Kurdish vote in Nineveh amounted to 174,800.
Diyala:
– Patriotic Union of Kurdistan: 23,715 votes
– Kurdistan Democratic Party: 6,804 votes
– Kurdistan Socialist Democratic Party: 397 votes
The total Kurdish vote in Diyala amounted to 30,916 votes.
In Salah Al-Din, Kurdish parties gained 10, 239 votes.
