Clearing over 10 tons of debris

Altun Kopri municipality addresses election aftermath

KIRKUK, December 20– Following the Iraqi provincial council elections, the municipality of Altun Kopri (Pirde) undertakes the cleanup of more than 10 tons of discarded campaign materials left on main roads and around polling stations.

Altun Kopri’s mayor, Mohammed Najib Majid, told 964 that individuals have taken the iron bars of candidate’s election flexes, and left hazardous metal remnants behind on the roads.

Despite regulations prohibiting the hanging of candidate pictures in certain areas, Majid noted instances of distortion of municipal projects, where people disassembled iron frames for personal use.

The mayor said that it is the responsibility of candidates to remove their campaign material. Municipal teams are now tasked with clearing these areas and eliminating iron debris from the roads.
