Tire blowout causes fatal crash on Basra-Qurna Highway

BASRA — A traffic accident in the Zarkan area of Shafi sub district on Thursday claimed the lives of two people and injured five others after a vehicle lost control and collided with another on the main road between Basra and Qurna.

A security source told 964media, the crash involved two vehicles, a passenger car and a pickup truck. The source said the passenger car “was coming from Dair district when one of its tires exploded.

“The driver lost control, veered into oncoming traffic, and collided with the pickup.”

The crash left both vehicles heavily damaged. Emergency teams responded to the scene, where two people were pronounced dead and five others were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
