Dust on Sunday, rain and thunderstorms in the center and south by Tuesday

BAGHDAD — Skies will be mostly clear across Iraq on Sunday with dust spreading from the west, before temperatures fall on Monday and rain and thunderstorms reach central and southern Iraq on Tuesday, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Sunday will be mostly clear with some cloud, and light thundershowers are possible in the northern mountains. Temperatures will be close to Saturday’s, warm to hot during the day and cooler at night and early morning, with highs of 40°C in Basra, Dhi Qar and Maysan, 37°C in Baghdad and 29°C in Duhok.

Light and variable winds will turn moderate northwesterly in the west during the morning, raising light to moderate dust in the desert that will gradually spread to other cities. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km but may drop in the morning in haze and dust.

Monday will be partly cloudy, with temperatures falling several degrees nationwide. Moderate rain and occasional thunderstorms are forecast for central and southern Iraq on Tuesday, with a chance of scattered light showers on Wednesday and Thursday.
