Iraqi election monitor alliance reports 25 percent voter turnout
BAGHDAD, December 18 — Saad Fathallah, a member of the Alliance of Networks and Organizations for Election Monitoring, stated on Monday that a midday report indicated 25 percent voter turnout across Iraq.
Fathallah noted that Baghdad had the lowest participation rate, while Kirkuk recorded the highest turnout among all governorates. He further highlighted that low turnout in Baghdad, particularly in the Rasafa district, was attributed to the Sadrist movement’s boycott of the elections.
He also pointed to chronic economic challenges and poor public services as reasons why citizens doubt new candidates could enact change.
