Kirkuk airport adds Cairo, its sixth international route since May
KIRKUK — Kirkuk International Airport will start direct flights to Cairo on Oct. 4, the sixth international destination announced for the airport since it reopened in May after a two-month closure.
“Within efforts to expand the destination network and strengthen air connectivity, Kirkuk International Airport announces the start of direct flights between Kirkuk and Cairo beginning on Oct. 4, 2026,” the airport said. It did not name the operating airline or say how many flights a week the route will carry.
The airport was shut for 60 days during the regional conflict before resuming domestic flights on May 1 with an arrival from Baghdad. Istanbul restarted on May 17 at four services a week, and the airport ran its first night operation on May 24, allowing it to work around the clock rather than in daylight only. The Transport Ministry said last week that Kirkuk had added Antalya, Beirut, Dubai and Trabzon.
