Temperatures fall sharply with the Kurdistan Region down to 35°C

BAGHDAD — Temperatures are dropping across Iraq on Monday, with Duhok and Sulaymaniyah at 35°C and Basra down to 46°C — five degrees below the month’s peak — and no governorate expected to reach 47°C.

Basra falls four degrees on Sunday, Maysan six and Dhi Qar five. Maysan and Dhi Qar are forecast at 44°C, Muthanna 43°C, Wasit 42°C, Najaf and Diwaniyah 41°C, and Baghdad, Diyala, Karbala and Babil 40°C. Kirkuk, Nineveh, Salah al-Din and Anbar are at 38°C and Erbil 36°C.

Skies will be mostly clear with cloud in the north and a chance of light scattered rain, particularly in Duhok. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 10 to 20 km/h, dropping calm overnight in places, with visibility of 8 to 10 km falling to 5 to 7 km in night haze. Mostly clear conditions continue, with a slight rise in the centre and north on Tuesday and the south holding steady.
