Temperatures reach 51°C in southern Iraq

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s General Authority for Meteorology said Saturday that clear and sunny weather will continue across the country under the influence of the seasonal thermal low-pressure system, with temperatures reaching 51 degrees Celsius in Basra.

The authority said temperatures would remain close to Friday’s levels in central and northern areas while rising slightly in the south. Daytime conditions are expected to remain intensely hot, with relatively milder temperatures during the night.

Winds will be light and variable at 5-10 kph, shifting at times to light to moderate northwesterlies of 10-20 kph, particularly in southern Iraq.

Horizontal visibility is expected to remain generally good at 8-10 kilometers but may decrease to 5-7 kilometers in areas affected by pollutants.
