Highs of 50 °C forecast for Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar
BAGHDAD — Temperatures are forecast to reach 50 °C in Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar governorates on Wednesday and 47 °C in Baghdad, with Sulaymaniyah and Duhok recording the country’s lowest daytime highs at 41 °C, the meteorological agency said.
Skies will be clear and sunny nationwide under a seasonal thermal low-pressure system, with temperatures close to Tuesday’s readings and relatively milder conditions at night.
Northwesterly winds of 10 to 20 km/h are forecast, gusting to about 50 km/h in parts of central and southern Iraq in the afternoon and raising dust in desert areas and on roads outside cities. Visibility is expected at 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km where dust is present.
