Iraqi forces shoot down unidentified drone in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Iraqi military units shot down an unidentified drone within the operational sector of the 45th Brigade of the 11th Division, the Ministry of Defense said Thursday.
The ministry said in a statement that “at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, units of the 1st Battalion, 5th Brigade, 11th Division were able to detect an unidentified drone within the area of responsibility.”
It added that “immediately upon detecting the target, coordination was made with the division headquarters to verify its identity, and it was found to be unidentified. Accordingly, the units engaged it using supporting weapons and successfully shot it down.”
The ministry said its forces remain “at high readiness to deal with any air or ground threats, and will not hesitate to protect Iraq and its people and confront any security breach.”
