Flames rise from a site struck in an airstrike targeting PMF positions in Tuz Khurmatu on Saturday.
Airstrike hits PMF sites in Tuz Khurmatu with at least four fighters wounded
TUZ KHURMATU — Warplanes struck several Popular Mobilization Forces positions in Tuz Khurmatu district Saturday evening, wounding four fighters, two seriously, local police said.
Badr Khalaf, director general of Tuz Khurmatu police, told 964media the strikes hit a weapons and ammunition depot belonging to the PMF and several positions of Kataib Hezbollah. The extent of material damage had not been determined. “Flames from the bombardment are still rising,” Khalaf said.
A separate source said the wounded were transported to hospital for treatment.
The night before, an airstrike targeted the home of a PMF leader in the Arasat area of central Baghdad. AFP reported two strikes hit Kataib Hezbollah, killing two members including a “key figure,” citing security sources.
Neither the United States nor Israel has claimed responsibility for strikes targeting PMF positions in Iraq. The PMF said Thursday that 32 airstrikes have hit its positions across seven governorates since the war began Feb. 28, killing 27 fighters and wounding 50.
Iran-aligned factions under the umbrella of the Islamic Resistance in Iraq — including Kataib Hezbollah, Asaib Ahl al-Haq, Kataib Imam Ali and Harakat al-Nujaba, many of which are formally incorporated into the PMF — have claimed responsibility for numerous drone and rocket attacks on alleged U.S.-linked targets since the war began.
