Arab Parliament expresses solidarity with Iraq over sovereignty violations

BAGHDAD — The Arab Parliament on Wednesday expressed solidarity with Iraq and support for efforts to preserve the country’s sovereignty, condemning what it described as attacks aimed at destabilizing its security and stability.

Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ahmed al-Yamahi said the body affirms “full solidarity and complete support for Iraq in confronting the blatant attacks it is facing,” in a message to Iraqi Parliament Speaker Haibat al-Halbousi. He said the attacks “constitute a grave violation of its national sovereignty and a direct threat to its security, stability and the safety of its citizens,” and described them as “a blatant violation of the principles of the United Nations and the rules of international law.”

The Cairo-based body said it supports all efforts aimed at preserving Iraq’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and strengthening regional stability.

The statement comes as Iraq faces a wave of security incidents linked to the regional war. Drone and missile attacks have targeted locations across the country, including an incident in which debris from an intercepted drone fell near the UAE Consulate in Erbil. The U.S. Embassy compound in Baghdad has also faced repeated rocket and drone attacks claimed by Iran-aligned factions, prompting Iraqi authorities to reiterate their commitment to protecting diplomatic missions.
