Drone attack on Zrgwezalla village kills one, wounds two in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH — A drone attack struck Zrgwezala village in Sulaymaniyah governorate on Wednesday morning, killing one Komala party fighter and wounding two others, according to a source in the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan.

The source told 964media that “at 7 a.m. today, Zrgwezala was attacked 10 times by drones.” At least eight drones targeted the party’s positions in two waves, AFP reported. One of the wounded was transferred to a hospital in Sulaymaniyah. A senior Komala official, Ali Ranjder, blamed the attack on Iran.

The fighter killed was identified as Omid Veysi, according to the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights.

“This is the most violent attack against our bases since the beginning of the war,” another Komala official told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that “drones are still flying in the skies over the area.”

A Komala fighter was also killed in a separate attack in the Sulaymaniyah region last week.

Since the war began Feb. 28, Iran has repeatedly struck Iranian Kurdish opposition positions in the Kurdistan Region.

Iranian Kurdish opposition parties — now organized under the Alliance of Political Forces of Iranian Kurdistan — have drastically limited their military activities in recent years.

The incident adds to a toll of at least 200 drone, missile and rocket attacks that have struck the Kurdistan Region since the war began.
