Transformer fire at Baghdad hospital put out
BAGHDAD — Civil Defense crews extinguished a fire in an electrical transformer at Ibn al-Haytham Hospital in Baghdad’s Karrada area on Sunday, with no casualties reported.
Crews contained the blaze and stopped it spreading despite heavy gas emissions from the fire, the Civil Defense Directorate said.
It is the second fire at a hospital in three weeks. A fire destroyed the medicine warehouse at al-Fayhaa Teaching Hospital in central Basra last month, burning its contents, and crews brought a large fire at oil storage tanks in Nahrawan, southeast of Baghdad, under control on Aug. 25.
