Sudani meets KDP parliamentary bloc amid regional war
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shiaa al-Sudani met Tuesday with members of the Kurdistan Democratic Party parliamentary bloc to discuss regional developments amid the ongoing war.
The meeting included Second Deputy Speaker Farhad Atrushi and Baha al-Araji, head of al-Sudani’s Reconstruction and Development parliamentary bloc. Participants discussed “the general situation in the country and developments in the region,” affirming “the rejection of targeting any Iraqi cities” and stressing that “Iraqi territory must not be used as a launching point for attacks against any country,” according to the prime minister’s media office.
The Kurdistan Region has faced at least 196 drone, missile and rocket attacks since the war began Feb. 28, killing four people and injuring 19, according to Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan. Of those, 162 struck Erbil governorate, hitting the U.S. Consulate, military bases, the international airport, oil fields, hotels, residential areas, telecom towers and Peshmerga positions.
