Iraq, Egypt foreign ministers discuss war, upcoming Arab League meeting
BAGHDAD — Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein spoke by phone Saturday with Egyptian counterpart Badr Abdelatty to discuss the regional war and coordinate ahead of an upcoming Arab League ministerial meeting.
The two exchanged views on political and security developments and their impact on the region, reviewed member states’ positions, and discussed both the U.S. stance on the war’s continuation and Iran’s recent announcement that it would halt attacks on neighboring countries.
Both ministers stressed the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to reach a ceasefire and reduce regional tensions.
The conflict began Feb. 28 when Israel and the United States launched coordinated strikes on Iranian cities and military sites. Iran has since carried out missile and drone counterstrikes targeting Israeli territory, U.S. military bases and Gulf states, with projectiles also crossing into the Kurdistan Region.
