PMF says US-Israeli strike in Diyala killed four members

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces confirmed Sunday that four of its fighters were killed in a strike in Diyala governorate, following earlier reports of an explosion in the area.

In a statement, the PMF said it “mourned a group of martyrs from Brigade 41 who were martyred as a result of the treacherous Zionist-American shelling in Diyala,” confirming that the incident was the result of a strike.

The statement named the dead as “the hero Mohammed Mushtaq Abbas al-Moussawi, the hero Bashar Adnan al-Moussawi, the hero Murad Abdul Karim al-Aqili and the hero Haider Khaled Adnan.” Funeral ceremonies were held in Baghdad in the presence of PMF leaders and supporters.

Earlier Sunday, Diyala police said an unidentified drone had dropped an explosive device over an agricultural field in Muqdadiyah district, killing and wounding several people, and that the identity of the aircraft and those responsible were under investigation.

The confirmation comes as Iraq faces heightened security tensions following coordinated U.S. and Israeli strikes inside Iran and retaliatory missile and drone launches across the region. Iraqi authorities have reported multiple drone interceptions and airspace closures in recent days.
