Erbil governor confirms Chinese Visa issuance, discusses modern urban park

ERBIL, November 12 — Erbil Governor, Omed Xoshnaw, confirmed on Sunday the issuance of travel visas to China for citizens of the region starting early next year. This announcement came during his meeting with the Chinese Consul General in Erbil, Liu Jun. The two parties also discussed the establishment of a large, modern urban park in the city.

A statement from the Erbil Governorate, translated by Network 964:

“Erbil Governor, Omed Xoshnaw, welcomed Liu Jun, the Chinese Consul General, on Sunday. During the meeting, attended by the Mayor of Erbil and the Director of Erbil’s Gardens and Parks Engineering, the Chinese Consul General praised the progress and prosperity witnessed by Erbil. He emphasized Erbil’s historical significance and expressed hope for the continued development of the longstanding friendship between the Kurds and China, as well as relations between the Kurdistan Region and his country in various fields such as trade, industry, agriculture, and tourism.

Governor Xoshnaw welcomed the consul and stated, China, as a major global trading nation, and the presence of its companies in Erbil are important to us. Our desire is to continue developing relations with China, and we affirm that, as always, our doors are open to all Chinese companies and investors. If they wish to operate in Erbil, we will provide them with all the necessary facilitations.

In another part of the meeting, in addition to discussing the procedures for issuing Chinese visas by the Chinese Consulate, all preparations were made to issue Chinese visas to citizens in Erbil starting from the new year. The construction of a large modern park with Chinese design, covering an area of 15,000 square meters, was also discussed. This project is initiated by the Chinese Consulate, supervised by the Erbil Governorate, and construction is set to begin soon. Governor Xoshnaw thanked the Chinese Consulate for its initiative, appreciating their work as a beautiful gift from China to Erbil in the future. He affirmed that the creation of this park will support a healthy environment and increase green spaces in Erbil.

Subsequently, the Chinese Consul General extended an official invitation to Governor Xoshnaw to visit China and its provinces, expressing the desire for Erbil to become a sister province to China. Governor Xoshnaw accepted the Chinese Consul’s invitation and expressed hope that the agreement between the sister city of Erbil and one of the Chinese provinces would be signed at the earliest opportunity.
