Two foreign workers die after falling into asphalt tank near Erbil
ERBIL — Two foreign workers died Saturday after falling into an asphalt tank while cleaning it at a facility on the Erbil-Gwer road, 964media learned at the scene.
The workers — an Iranian man, 25, and a Bangladeshi man, 29 — were exposed to oxygen deficiency inside the tank and could not escape.
Civil Defense teams were deployed to recover the bodies. Spokesperson Shakhawan Saeed told 964media the tank was being moved and overturned to allow access, adding that “the materials inside the tanks have had an effect on the bodies.”
The facility is located near Timar village, north of Erbil.
