Iraq forecasts cooling temperatures, patchy fog and chances of light rain

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s General Authority for Meteorology and Seismic Monitoring said Saturday that daytime weather will be partly cloudy, trending toward clearer conditions in the evening, while cloudy skies will persist in the northeast with dense fog forming in the morning and chances of light rain showers in the southern region.

In its daily report, the authority said “weather will be partly cloudy during the daytime, gradually turning clear during the evening,” adding that “cloudy conditions will continue in the northeastern parts of the country, with dense fog forming in the morning.” It noted that “opportunities remain for light rain showers in the southern region.”

Temperatures are expected to drop by several degrees compared with Friday in the central and southern regions, while remaining near average levels in the north. The report said western parts of the country will see a sharper morning temperature drop “as a result of the advance of a very cold air mass.”

According to the authority, winds will be moderate northwesterly in the central and southern regions, with speeds ranging between 20 and 30 kilometers per hour.

Horizontal visibility will range between 8 and 10 kilometers in general, the report said, but will deteriorate in the morning due to haze to between 5 and 7 kilometers, and in areas of dense fog to less than 1 kilometer.
