Peshmerga fighter dies of wounds from Soran missile strike
ERBIL — A Peshmerga fighter wounded in the Iranian ballistic missile strike on Soran administration last month died Tuesday after two weeks in hospital, the Ministry of Peshmerga said.
The ministry identified the fighter as Waisi Akher Saeed Sherwani, who succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Erbil. “With deep sorrow and grief, once again the caravan of Kurdistan’s martyrs has been entrusted with another of its sons,” the ministry said, reiterating its condemnation of “these unjust attacks targeting Peshmerga forces and the civilian population of the Kurdistan Region.”
On March 24, six Iranian ballistic missiles struck Peshmerga positions near Soran, killing six fighters and wounding about 30 others. Sherwani’s death brings the toll from that strike to seven. At least 500 attacks have been recorded across the Kurdistan Region since the war began Feb. 28, resulting in more than 100 casualties including at least 17 killed.
