Thunderstorms, fog across Iraq on Thursday

BAGHDAD — A low-pressure system is affecting weather conditions across Iraq on Thursday, bringing scattered thunderstorms, changing cloud cover and patches of dense fog, according to the General Authority for Meteorology.

The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies in central Iraq, with conditions shifting from partly to fully cloudy in northern and southern regions. Light to moderate rain showers are expected in several areas, with periods of heavier rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning, particularly in western parts of the central region and in eastern areas of the country.

Moderate to dense fog is expected to form in multiple locations during the morning hours, reducing visibility before gradually lifting toward midday.

Temperatures will remain close to Wednesday’s levels, with slight increases anticipated in some areas.

Winds are expected to be light and variable during the day, ranging from 5 to 10 kilometers per hour and tending toward calm conditions. At night, winds will shift to a light to moderate southeasterly flow, with speeds between 10 and 20 kilometers per hour.

Horizontal visibility is forecast to range between 5 and 7 kilometers because of haze and humidity. Visibility may decrease to between 2 and 4 kilometers in areas experiencing heavier rainfall and could fall below 1 kilometer in locations affected by fog.
